While the ATP St. Petersburg Open is still set to occur from Oct. 12-18, it was announced on Thursday that the ATP and WTA Kremlin Cup events scheduled to be held in Moscow have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement shared by the WTA, the organization explained:

  • The State Kremlin Palace is the main stage of the country - one of the best and most prestigious theatrical and concert venues. Concert programs dedicated to various memorable, historical, anniversary dates, holidays of people and professions that make a significant contribution to the spiritual authority and greatness of our country are the visiting card of the SKP.

'As mandated by the Moscow City Administration, the event will no longer be permitted to go ahead in 2020.'

The WTA added:

'The WTA continues to monitor the situation closely and work with medical experts, as protecting the health and safety of our WTA community is of utmost importance. The Tour continues to remain vigilant in managing this challenging situation and playing as much tennis as it is safe to do so.'

The Kremlin Cup in Moscow - originally scheduled to take place from October 19-25 - traditionally features a combined men's and women's event. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers are.
